Orly - Mirrorball (Sparkle Collection, Holiday 2014) and China Glaze - Party Hearty (2010)

A bit christmassy, but beautiful non the less!
Orly Mirrorball with a lick of Party Hearty in between.

Both polish are a charm to work with, Mirrorball is opaque in three coats and Party Hearty is a topper that gives a nice amount of glitter with just one coat. I love that Mirrorball has a fine silver holo base with some small holo glitter thrown in the mix for extra fun.

Party Hearty is from the China Glaze "Tis The Season To Be Naughty And Nice Holiday 2010 Collection.
Orly Mirrorball is also from a Holiday Collection and is one of the best Orly polishes they gave out in the last years I think......!

Nicole by OPI - Twist of Fate (Shades to Crave Christmas Collection 2010 )

Nicole Twist of Fate I bought in an after-thought....I needed 3 polishes to get the deal price of €12,99 so I picked the sparkly golden one.
I have found Twist of Fate online as a part of the Nicole Shades to Crave Christmas Collection 2010 (Scrangie) and as a part of the Shopper's Drugmart (Canada) and Target (US) exclusive Collection 2011 (Ommorphia). So you tell me, out of which collection is it? I guess Scrangie wins because she had it prior to Ommorphia....?!
On first sight Twist of Fate is a ordinary golden glitter topper, BUT it is not only a topper you can wear it perfectly on its own as well! In two simple coats you have major golden bling on your tips that even will make the christmas elves sing!

The colour is good old plain 14k yellow gold, the glitter size is normal old fashioned one size hexes and the base is clear. It's loads of sparkle and loads of gold...so I wanted to tone it down a notch with a pretty middle blue creme. I used Ess Trendy Colours in Midnight Blue, it was just opaque enough to do the job!

And even that tiny strip of gold glitter sparkled like crazy and gave the whole manicure a festive look.

Essie - Going Incognito (Winter Collection 2010) in memory of those we have lost in the MH17 crash

This last post before my nails go on holiday, I felt I needed to do something in memory of all the people who died in the MH17 crash.

It has been a devastating two weeks here in The Netherlands: the caskets being brought back by those huge freight planes and the hours of unloading them were surreal to watch. As was the long procession of up to 71 hearses that had to bring the victims to the identification site. They went from Airport Eindhoven to Hilversum in a 1,5 hour drive, the last part of it is trough a densely forested area wich was beautiful and peaceful in a way: most of them finally came home...

They came back home, incognito and through the green forest.

Thus Essie Going Incognito came to mind.

This was two very easy coats of forest green creme.
It's more for autumn and winter but very fitting for the occasion.

My nails and I are going on a polish less holiday, I have 12 polishes I still haven't put up so I will show those to you in the following weeks!

Have a very nice and happy holiday!

Revlon - Siren (Fire and Ice Collection, holiday 2010)

Since the Soccer World Championship is being held at the moment and our teams national colour is orange (our whole country is painted orange, hell: even the family name of the King is Orange)....I though it fitting to do a little tribute to the boys in Brazil! Hence orange nails today with help from Revlon's Siren.

It is a lovely orange creme, it is not too blue and yet not too yellow...just right. I needed three coats to get it nice and opaque. Oranges are difficult colours I my experience so far; they tend to be streaky and watery, I don't know why that is (perhaps it has something to do with the pigments?). Revlon's Siren was on the good side of the spectrum though.

OPI - This Gown Needs A Crown (Miss Universe Collection autumn 2013) together with OPI - Fiercely Fiona (Shrek Forever After Collection sring 2010)

The moment I saw the Miss Universe Collection, I needed all three polishes! First up is This Gown Needs A Crown, it's a satin finish laquer and it does not need a topcoat. It has indeed a velvety feel to it. A few days ago I was wondering how I should discribe the colour....it is silver but softer and it has something extra, but what was it? I was on my bike during this train of thoughts and my bike just happens to have a brushed aluminum steering wheel. When I saw my nails next to the aluminum, >click<  there it was: TGNAC looks and feels like brushed aluminum!

Very cool!

I did not want to combine TGNAC with one of the other polishes from the collection, that was just too obvious. I wanted something light and fresh and happy, so I choose Fiercely Fiona. The fresh lemon yellow combines perfectly with the soft silver and I wore this combination for almost a week!
In Fiercely Fiona I found the yellow I was looking for for a long, long time. Most yellows are way too sunflower yellow (too much orange), my ideal yellow needs a dash of green and a hint of dirty....enter Fiercely Fiona.

This mani was three coats of TGNAC and four of FF, it was very, very thin but easy manageable and perfecly opaque after four coats....

Essie - Masquerade Belle from the Going Incognito 2010 winter collection

I needed something chic, classic and elegant.....Essie Masquerade Belle gave me just that!
It is a lovely dark wine red jelly that gives you a beautiful dark red nail in 2 coats.
It is perfect I think; the jelly give it that nice squishyness and shine. The colour is not too red, not too brown and definately not too blue based.

And then to think that it was kind of forgotten in the back of my Essie drawer (shame on me)!

The wear time was excellent as well (I used Essie Good to Go as top coat), I wore it 5 days without any major chipping! These dark jellies are awesome but in the winter collections of this year there are none that I know of :-(
Perhaps I should check out the back of my polish drawers?!
