Lynnderella - Pentimento (Sweet Somethings for a Summer Solstice, 2012) and OPI - Don't Touch My Tutu! (NYC Ballet Soft Shades, 2012)

OK, wow...this is my first and only Lynnderella polish....Pentimento.

And this is how it is described on Lynnderella's blog:
"Pentimento, according to Wikipedia, is "an alteration in a painting, evidenced by traces of previous work, showing that the artist has changed her mind as to the composition during the process of painting. The word is also Italian for repentance." For all fine- and/or nail-art applications. Clear base. Beware of bars."

And that all in one tiny bottle of polish!

I made a glitter sandwich of it with OPI Don't Touch My Tutu! I started with OPI then Pentimento then OPI, Pentimento and OPI again (and two layers of topcoat). I was very surprised to get the huge black hex....I could not see those living in there from the outside of the bottle.

I like it that the OPI makes it look like the glitters are snowed in...it feels like winter.

I know that there is/was a lot of controversy around Lynnderella and her polishes....what can one say about these things? Lynnderella is an true artist with glitter (I really think so) and well, throughout history it has become evident that artist are,in many, many cases, not very good in public relations, money and sales.....But it is the product that counts (although it is very expensive and barely unobtainable). Thank you Kristy from The Polish Haven for putting it in your blogsale and selling it to me!!!

Maybelline Forever Strong - Green Miracle 720 and China Glaze - This Is Tree-mendous (Happy HoliGlaze Christmas Collection 2013)

I bought this green a while ago at a discount store....the green metallic shimmer just called out to me and it needed to come home with me. It was sitting on my little polish "Helmer" for a while and it was overtaken by all the Essie's, Opi's, indies and China Glaze's until now.
Green Miracle is a grey green jelly with a ton of green metallic shimmer, in low light it looks quite dark and in the sun it's metallic green goodness!

The formula is thin and you need to apply a fair amount of polish with as little brushstrokes as possible. Otherwise you end up with bald spots..... This was two layers and when you look carefully you can see the bald spot problem on my ring finger....

Next day, I added China Glaze This Is Tree-mendous on the tips (to disguise some sleight tipp wear).

Quite the Christmas combination.....
Usually I like it better to make a gradient from the base of the nail, but well...that does not disguise any tipp wear, now does it?!

Elevation Polish - Mount Augustus (Australia Sunrise & Sunset Collection 2013)

Pink, it was love at first sight, yeah
Pink, when I turn out the light
Yeah pink, it's like red but not quite
And I think everything is going to be alright
No matter what we do tonight
(lyrics: Pink by Aerosmith)

It's Mount Augustus today: the weather here in The Netherlands is so dreary that I needed something warm and light! I was hard taking pictures in this drab and grey weather >I'm sorry<

Mount Augustus is a peach pink with electric violet shimmer and little gold flecks. The formula was a bit thick but quite workable. I used three coats to get this result.
It was perhaps a bit too much spring/summer but hey, everything is better then the eternal autumn we are celebrating here!

I really like these colours: the oranges with blue/violet shimmer BUT the formula almost always seems to disappoint (like with RBL NailsandNoms) and the wear time is very short (?). It's weird these polishes seem to become very hard when dry and very brittle as well.....perhaps the amount of shimmer makes the formula less strong or something...? I don't know what causes it, perhaps it is just me and my weird nail chemistry???

Essie - Pink Works (Pink About It, Breast Cancer Awareness Collection 2013)

I'm in a pink flow here, so today I show you Essie's Pink Works from the Breast Cancer Awareness Collection of last year. This pink is described as a "fresh pink with reflective red shimmer"......welllllll.....it is pink, you can look at it as fresh I guess, but that red shimmer????? There is some slight shimmer in the bottle but it does not transfer to the nail at all. So you end up with a completely average pink creme on your nails.

This was three coats and it applied fairly good for a light creme pink. It is not squishy looking and it had no depth due to the disappearing shimmer.
Out of the two polishes from this Collection I prefer Pink About it; the shimmer is more visible (although not holografic as was advertised) and it looks more much more squishy. For me Pinks Works just does not work.
All in all this collection was a disappointment for me really, there are far more interesting pinks on the market then these (even Essie has them...).

Hare Polish - Peepshow Magique (The Coin Operation Collection, fall 2013)

Ahhhh, PINK again!
I have been eyeing this polish for a while and everytime I wanted to purchase it....it was sold out.
But I managed the get my hands on it at the end and here it is: Peepshow Magique.
It's a pale pink jelly with rounded gold and opalescent flakes mixed in. The formula is a bit syrupy but very manageble: this is 3 coats.
I am very much loving the indie polishes lately, I love the out of the box glitter mixes, some of them do great shimmers and holo's as well....it's all a bit more out there or something. Where as the big mainstream brands play it safe most of the time, with hidden shimmers, faint holo's and bland colours, the indie world is a big party of colours, holo's, shimmers, glitters, glow in the dark etc. etc. Some are hit and miss but there are loads of very interesting concoctions: I like!

OPI - You Callin' Me a Lyre? (NYC Ballet Soft Shades Collection, spring 2012) and OPI - Which is Witch? (Oz The Great And Powerful Collection, spring 2013)

I needed something fresh and neutral on my nails this week: so I choose OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre? sandwiched with Opi Which Is Witch? This is two layers of YCMAL then one WIW and then again one YCMAL to finish the sandwich.
I love it when glitter is sandwiched or mattified...it makes the glitter more wearable and less harsh ;-)
YCMAL is a soft peachy pink jelly, very neutral really. WIW is holographic micro fun (it's a true micro disco ball): there are silver holographic micro glitters, silver holografic micro bars (more like tiny mouse hairs) and some bigger silver holografic hexes in a clear base.

The result:
OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre Which Is Witch?

It was a nice "palate cleanser" and I wore it for four days. I liked it so much that I will stay in the soft and pink corner for a while. It is always nice to be a bit pink and girly!

Zoya - Carter (Fall 2013 PixieDust Collection)

It was in my drawer for a while now: Zoya Carter. And it is one of the best liquid sands/pixie dusts I have ever tried! The base colour is this wonderful dark purple and it has tiny fuschia glitters in it to give it sparkle and colour. I love it when they add different colour glitters to a dark base: spectacular!
The first layer was a bit weird: it was uneven and streaky and very translucent, but the second layer gave it all its colour and evenness.

As usual my camera doesn't pick up the blue very good: the colour is much more intense and deep then my pictures suggest.
If you like these texture polishes you absolutely should try and get your hands on this one: it is stunning!
